DOES YOUR DOG HAVE MANNERS?
Manners to me are different then Obedience. In obedience training it is about the commands and the structure. While a down stay is very useful and even important, not jumping on the kitchen counter to steal the turkey dinner will rank higher with most families. Now you could use a down stay to keep your pooch away from the dinner or you could teach your dog that just because the turkey is there (and smells wonderful) doesn't mean you have to have it.
Dogs are born without impulse control. Cat runs dogs HAVE to chase, person or dog over there dog HAS to see it, food around dog MUST eat it. While we can train a dog to work around such scenarios it is much simpler and more enjoyable to teach a dog to react in a different way. WITH impulse control.
In class we use simple exercises to show your dog the fastest way to get praise, attention and food is with a "can I have it?" vs "I have to have it" frame of mind. It is a lot easier than it sounds, with the right direction. Join us in class to find out how.

Why work with distraction?
The benefits of working with controlled distractions is that your dog will learn that no matter what situation you run into the rules of your commands still apply. Sit still means sit when you're outside, inside or even when there is a squirrel around.
By adding distraction to training you will be able to learn how to reinforce your commands in situations that can cause your dog to lose focus.
