YOU CAN HAVE THE "MODEL DOG"... AND THE PAPERS TO PROVE IT.

The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) is a certification program that evaluates dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere. The purpose of the test is to ensure that dogs are respected members of their communities and are trained to act mannerly in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs. Dogs that pass the CGC test are deemed to be reliable family and community members and will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

The CGC is now considered a title that your dog can earn and it carries with it a certain feeling of accomplishment and a certain level of prestige. It displays that your dog has passed a certain standard for training, temperament, and behavior. Having your dog complete this test is a way of showing your skill in training your best friend. For more information on the CGC visit the AKC site.

Requirements for joining this course are completion of our Basic Manners course or completion of a K9 Interview approving an equivalent of training.

Why get your dog CGC certified?
Other than the pretty certificate, ribbon & medal (yes you can get all three!) what benefits of CGC are there. The answer: A LOT. Dogs who are CGC certified can go on to become Therapy Dogs, Service Dogs and Search & Rescue Dogs. Many apartment, landlords and insurance companies offer breaks and deals to dogs that are certified. The pride of accomplishment that you will feel when completing this title will be near and dear to your heart.
